The clock is ticking and Overwatch 2 looms just around the corner. You may already have your calendar marked for the 4th of October 2022, but just how prepared are you for all the new content this highly anticipated sequel has in store? Now is the best time to prepare for it all and one new aspect takes prominence amidst it all: the New Characters!
Ranging from confirmed, partly confirmed to speculated, these new faces will forever change the OW experience. As such, let’s go through what we know so far about these new champs in a short-and-sweet way!
Junker Queen
Up until now, we had the Junkertown map but not its Queen. Ever since the map’s release in 2017, this town saw no shortage of mayhem. It came as no surprise that the Junker Queen was featured in posters throughout the map, in addition to some voice lines at Capture Point 1. Lorewise connected to Junkrat, Roadhog and Wrecking Ball, the time is nigh for the Queen to take the throne.
The Junker Queen is now confirmed to be playable in OW2 as a deadly Tank. Her arsenal consists of an anti-heal inflicting ax, a shotgun and a set of abs you cannot not stare at! Her gameplay is aggressive, melee and tanky. What’s more, her Passive heals her for all damage dealt over time via wounds!
Sojourn
Starting off the list is Sojourn herself! If this name doesn’t ring a bell, you might wanna brush up on your OW lore a bit. There is no better choice for OW2’s first official new hero and many of us saw this coming. Not only has she been all over the lore, but was even featured as the Commander of the playable Archives Event mission titled “Storm Rising”.
As a pivotal figure in OW2’s story, this Canadian DPS hero and captain of Overwatch is equipped with cybernetic enhancements. Her kit includes a railgun, secondary fire burst shot, disruptor shot and power slide abilities. What makes her so meta though, are the high mobility and precision at almost any range. There is no doubt that she would become a fan favorite in no time!
Kitsune Support Hero
We don’t even know this one’s name but Blizzard confirmed the release of OW2’s third new hero for later this year and they will definitely be a Support hero. Speculations suggest that they would follow a Kitsune (Spirit Fox) theme, as hinted in recent OW2 footage where a spirit fox is seen running with three silhouettes chasing it. Further hints were found in the Kanezaka deathmatch map, where a fox statue and graffiti were discovered, and this hero is seemingly connected to Genji and Hanzo.
Tank Hero (Mauga?)
Since OW2 follows a 5v5 format, the sole Tank role is more game-changing than ever. We can expect Blizzard to really hype up the role and bring out new Tank heroes to commandeer the direction of matches. While we can’t exactly name this one either, many expect to see Mauga becoming a playable hero, due to being featured in the Baptiste-themed “What You Left Behind” short story.
Portrayed as a Talon soldier wielding dual machine guns and a barrier, this character was teased to be in development by director Jeff Kaplan. Considering his history with Baptiste, fans cannot help but hope for his addition ingame as another indomitable Tank!
Finally, here are a list of other Characters who are simply just speculated to be released as playable heroes along the way in OW2:
- Storm Rising Omnic – Mechanical antagonist seemingly affiliated with Talon
- Maximilien – Accountant and co-founder of the Talon organization
- Zephyrus – A combatant of the Roman Colosseum
- Overlord, King, Casino and D.mon – D.Va’s MEKA teammates
- Sanjay Korpal – Vishkar Corporation official secretly collaborating with Talon
Well, that wraps up almost everything we know so far about the new and upcoming Overwatch 2 Heroes. Other than Sojourn and Junker Queen, everyone can be subjected to change and we can only work with the hints and easter eggs Blizzard decides to drop for us. Regardless, there’s no denying that the OW community is fully hyped and ready to give this awesome sequel a spin. It’s been so long, yet we never lost hope and now the fateful day is almost upon us…
