Episode One. Don’t go away humbly.
Chapter one. Survival of the fittest
Day One
This chapter will act as a kind of tutorial for the player who has begun his journey in The Long Darkness. Gradually you will be introduced and taught the basics of game mechanics. For someone who has crashed an airplane, the shrapnel in your hand can even be called a kind of luck. Your mother never approved of tattoos and piercings, and since the son of you is much better than the pilot, you proceed to remove the foreign object from your precious limb. Hover over it and left-click on it, trying to quickly fill in the progress bar, a similar mechanic is used when attacking a wolf.
By performing the operation yourself, you will become the lucky owner of a metal splinter, which will serve at first as a hunting knife. Despite the ostensible choice between pulling out and not pulling out the iron, you shouldn’t leave the splinter for later. As long as it’s in you, you won’t be able to bandage yourself, which means there’s a non-illusory chance of pulling away from the blood loss. Once you’ve finished intervening, walk toward the cave lit by the flames of the fire. If you can (and you better be able to) collect pieces of bark and it will be great if you can find a stick, it will also come in handy. Going into the cave, pick up the first aid kit, it should be nearby and use the bandage on yourself. After that feel free to go into the cave, shoving into the pockets of everything that is bad. It is not necessary to bother except with various waste paper and boxes. Use bark and sticks to build a fire. After you light the fire, the task will be completed, and the protagonist decides to surrender to Morpheus.
Day Two
Thirst and hunger will wake you up instead of your alarm clock. Do not hurry to throw wood into the fire again and drink hearty and invigorating boiling water, it’s better to do what obfuscate the surrounding area. Break down the wooden crates for some much-needed wood, and just inspect the metal and plastic container, and pocket all the contents. Done? Now you can go back to the home cave. Again we make the fire burn and the water boil. About three liters should be enough for you. We drink water, snack individual diet (interesting fact: if you do not sentence IRPshku entirely and completely, the task will not be completed, and it does not need you, so bon appetite! And moderate the ardor of their own and his fire, do not throw all the kindling in one fire. You’re not on a barbecue, after all.
The third day.
Blizzard. Blizzards are beautiful and quite romantic, unless of course you’re a crashed pilot in the middle of nowhere in the Canadian woods. Then, of course, you will have other concerns. For example, you’ll have to keep warm with a campfire that burns for at least 9 hours. Once again, relentlessly loot the canyon available to you. Check (smash) drawers for a couple of books, collect cedar wood and just sticks. Water purification tablets and fuel are better saved for the future, who knows, maybe you’ll need it more later. As soon as the fire will be burning for more than 9 hours you can start to get warm near it and the day will be over.
Day four
Blizzard is over. After taking a look at the view, climb a fallen tree and climb up the tree. Loot every stick you see. Will’s jacket, Astrid’s case also comes in handy. And, of course, all the meat from the deer carcass should go only to you. Try to climb the hill, the game, of course, will not let you do it, but the attempt is not a torture. Plus, you found a rosehip and now you can brew it. It will not save you from the dislocation, but it will be delicious and warm. All the meat must be cooked, the rosehip fruit, too, so there will be tea. You will have about two hours for everything, plus or minus thirty minutes. Eat venison with rosehip decoction, feeling like life might start to get better.
Day Five
The wound on your arm practically doesn’t bother you, snack on meat and wash it down with water. Put the dried jacket back on. It doesn’t pinch, does it? That’s all right. Stomp along the fallen tree to Will’s plane to see the cutscene.
Characters in the game.
Gray Mother.
Alone in Milton. Blind. Her character is sturdy, Nordic. Great hearing, which in combination with a trusty shotgun makes her not very defenseless. Lives in the only house with smoke coming out of it. How she survives is a mystery.
Jeremy. AKA “The Beastmaster.”
Weird guy, lives alone for quite a long time and completely without electricity. You can find him in the Beastmaster’s house, as well as in a secret bunker.
Methuselah
A kind of philosopher, engaged in sitting by the fire near the hydroelectric power station and prophesies civilization sunset and death in the cold silence. You can meet after the glow.
Astrid Greenwood.
Second protagonist. Prior to the event of “The First Flash,” she worked as a doctor.
